Note To Self

Sometimes, all you really need to do is ask.  What's the worst thing that can happen?

My mom used to tell me this all the time as I was growing up. There really isn't much to it, and sometimes, you'll be surprised by the response you receive.  This is typically the case with some of the photographs I use for my Inspiration Sunday posts and 11 Questions interviews.

Once in a while, my request is met with silence or a terse no, but that's usually the worst of it.  Even if the artists reject my requests, I think I leave a better impression with them, as I have honored them with first-hand recognition for their work and shown respect for their craft.

Tomorrow's 11 Questions interview came about from just asking, and I am really, really excited about it.  I mean, really.

  1. I recently had to write to a photographer in France to ask permission to use the image of the archer I've got on my blog banner now. I was nervous about doing it, but the friend who did the banner for me said, "what's the worst that can happen?" And, of course, the guy said no problem. Never hurts to ask. :)

  2. If you'll permit me a cliche: Nothing ventured, nothing gained. ;-)

  3. Excellent advice, especially since worst-case scenarios generally aren't so bad when you actually look at them.

  4. So, so true. If you don't ask, you're automatically making the answer "no", right?

  5. It's good advice, even though sometimes not so easy to follow. :)
