I am going to try something a little different today. I hope you will indulge me.
My father's side of the family is a travelling bunch. As a young child, I remember ogling the postcards that my Lola (Grandmother) preserved under a glass pane on her bedroom desk. The cards that showed images of the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, clogs from Holland, and an old passenger ocean liner, were among those that I remember most.
When my grandparents would travel, we would receive a postcard from them with a picture of the front of the hotel they stayed at. At the back of each one would be a little anecdote about the trip. My father continues that tradition, and so does my sister.
In all my thirty (cough) n--- years, I have never mailed a postcard. Well, that ends this week.
I would like to send five of you a postcard from a place I have never been to before. It will be my goal to visit a new place between today and August 15, 2011. While there, I will buy five postcards. I will write a short original piece (a poem, a drabble, or a just a short note) on each one and mail it to you before the end of the month.
If you would like to receive one of these postcards, please send me a note through the e-mail address on my profile, and give me your mailing address. I'll mail to anywhere in the world.
I do hope you will indulge my little request. You will be giving me an opportunity to do something I have never done before. Thank you, in advance. In the meantime, I present to you the prompt that inspired me to do this.
This prompt is yours to draw inspiration from. If you use it, and decide to post the resulting piece on your blog, or other online forum that hosts your writing, let me know in the comments section. I'll make sure to drop by and share my thoughts.
